The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage by Mel Robbins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Though the principle itself might be worth 5 stars – it’s too early to tell – this book only merits 3 stars. Similar to Simon Sinek’s ‘Start with Why,’ the author tried to stretch a really good booklet-/workshop-sized idea into a couple hundred pages. Like Mike Teevee, ‘The 5 Second Rule’ did not survive the stretching unscathed. There was roughly a 4-1 testimonial:content ratio, and the first 15% of the book is dedicated to telling you how great this thing is that it’s not yet telling you about. Basically, it’s structured like long-form sales copy.
So: interesting principle, but probably best digested by a half hour or so of YouTube presentations/interviews than by book.
