Our West Marches-style D&D campaign at work has been trying something new over the past few weeks. There’s a challenge – taking down an orc stronghold – that is not feasible for one party to attempt. So the players are doing a 3-pronged attack that happens, in game time at least, simultaneously. I’m happy to say it seems to have worked out pretty well! (Though I dropped the ball on coordinating with Grant on the stronghold layout, which really broke the verisimilitude… It did stop a group from seriously metagaming though.)
Anyway, my cleric – Vlad – was on one of these strike forces. Grant had us face a challenge where, long story short, we had to make confessions in order to appease a demigod so they didn’t tear us apart. Various characters took it with varying degrees of seriousness (naturally) but, for obvious reasons, Vlad was very thoughtful about the act. One of his biggest shames is that, despite being selfless with his life and pain, he is very greedy (borderline hoarder-ish) about material possessions. So he confessed this and made a literal sacrifice of some of his possessions, lighting them on fire after his confession.
So I drew that moment. I tried to visually represent Vlad attempting to separate himself from his things (both those he was actively sacrificing and those he was too attached to or to in need of to sacrifice at that moment).
