Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts by Carol Tavris
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
An exceptionally challenging book that everyone should read. (The part about marriage/relationships was particularly difficult to get through without catching myself thinking “yeah, but…”)
Mistakes occupies a tough in-between space in non-fiction; someone has to have enough familiarity with cognitive biases to generate enough interest to commit to reading an entire book about them, but that same person can’t have already learned enough about cognitive biases that they’re familiar with the majority of the information covered therein. Tavris doesn’t necessarily ‘nail’ this balance but she does attack it admirably.
