Ever since reading Mike Rohde’s ‘the Sketchnote Handbook,’ I’ve been enamored of sketchnoting. Alas, I just don’t get a lot of opportunities to practice!
Think about it: most of the times that I need to take notes, I’m either in a meeting where I’m actively involved and just need to jot down a reminder or I’m running around doing errands and something pops into my head. (Thank God for “Siri, make a note.”) The sketchnote approach, while tons of fun and engaging, is really optimized for the conference/seminar/panel format.
shhhh… maybe they won’t notice that I misspelled “millennial”
It just so happens that I spent the last four days at our local Tri-State SHRM conference.
So, before I went down, I committed to two things:
- Do not check my work email, not even once. (Passed with flying colors)
- Only take notes by the Sketchnote Handbook rules. (I’ll give myself an A-)
This was easily the most sketchnoting I’ve ever done in a short time span, so I learned a lot! The conference also had a social media component so, on a whim, I published my notes to the app as I finished them. Hopefully someone out there will find them entertaining (if not useful).
Here’s to not waiting until 2020 to sketch again!
