The Magicians by Lev Grossman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’m a huge fan of this book! For me, reading is very much a cerebral activity (even with SF/F), but the author was somehow able to bypass that. More often than not, I *felt* what the protagonist was feeling (and occasionally others too). Not an easy task.
The novel is an exception in another way, too: somehow Grossman wrote a fantasy novel that is *not* also an adventure story. It makes for a really interesting experience.
My one criticism is that the ending was pretty unsatisfying. Still, I’ll definitely be reading the sequels.
