The Only Investment Guide You’ll Ever Need by Andrew Tobias
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I didn’t enjoy this at all. In attempting to be The Only book you’ll need on investing (and personal finance, in general)), the author put himself in the tenuous position of being both an introductory and an advanced book. Because of that, I wouldn’t introduce this book to a newcomer to the personal finance scene (as 70% of the book would only muddy the waters) nor to a veteran (as 30% is elementary to the point of pain, and most of the rest goes into detail on tactics that could only reasonably be employed by the top 5 or 10% of earners).
In other words, the book isn’t a good first (or second or third) guide to personal finance. And really, how many people (other than PF nerds like me) are going to read more than 3 books on a topic that, frankly, isn’t really that complicated?
It beats 1 star because the writing style is mildly entertaining.
