So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Given how much I was looking forward to reading this book, I’m surprised by the degree to which it surpassed my expectations.
It’s an understatement to say that I’m interested in the panopticon to which we have voluntarily subjected ourselves (if not individually, then collectively). Ronson does wonders of both delving into the abstract ethics of ‘shaming as punishment’ and painting a human face on those we’re so quick to dehumanize.
Justice or mercy; we keep proving ourselves incompetent at the former and unwilling to try the latter.
